Company History, Present and Future

How it all began...

Our origins date back to 1925, when Robert Birkenbeul began repairing electrical machines and meters, initially operating from private premises under the most modest conditions. Soon afterwards, the first building extensions became necessary.

In the early years of the Federal Republic of Germany, BIRKENBEUL increasingly focused on electric drive machines for the local Siegerland ore mining industry, some of which had to be installed or repaired underground.

Auf Basis der daraus resultierenden Erfahrungen entwickelte BIRKENBEUL die ersten Trocken- Gießharztransformatoren. Diese fanden ihren Einsatz im Bergbau in Kiruna/Schweden sowie in Singapur.

This development was made possible, among other things, by an in-house design department, proprietary copper wire insulation machines, a company-owned metal foundry, and the stamping of electrical steel laminations.

…and has continuously evolved ever since

With the introduction of standardisation in electric motors in the mid-1960s, BIRKENBEUL continued to develop under the leadership of Werner Birkenbeul, the founder’s son, by expanding its trading activities and specialising in modifications of three-phase asynchronous motors.

Additional production halls were constructed in 1962 and 1973 for storage and the manufacturing of motors and transformers. In 1989/90, the company relocated to a new office building, accompanied by a further expansion of its facilities.

The most recent expansion took place in 2010 with the construction of an additional warehouse, increasing pallet storage capacity to 5,000 spaces.
